Ankahee

  • Ankahee
Subhrojeet Chakraborty is given the assignment of enhancing the t.r.p of a programme "Kabhi Yeh Kabhi Woh" within 52 episodes by the queen of Indian television ms Anekta Kapoor. Upon seeing through the earlier episodes of the serial to incorporate a new track, he finds himself in jam, since all the necessary tracks of twenty year leap, saas bahu saga, dead man coming back, extra marital affairs, etc. Have already been used several times by anekta. He is in dearth of new ideas when he meets a bunch of people around him. T.V. Mirchandani, an avid television viewer, karuna sindhu jagatpati an ex forest officer and now secretary of the building in which he lives, and of course Sumana Roychowdhury, a television hater, who becomes the girl of his dreams.

Success will give subhrojeet a secure job in anekta's company 'Lalaji Telefilms' with a hefty pay package and failure will send him back! to his home town kolkata. What will subhrojeet do...?

How he finishes the episodes going through unexpected situations is what the story is all about...It has now been two years and the police have not been able to crack a serial murder case. Arjun Sherawat is a man who is unseen and is the criminal. No one has his identity. This case has been granted to Sanjana who is a Police Officer. She has been trying too hard since the past 2 years but all her efforts have been in vain. Sheetal, a press reporter, a very vibrant girl who is full of life and loves her profession to the core, works with a known news channel and has each and every information about the case as she follows it very closely. She is always nagging Sanjana about thee case and keeps questioning her from time to time.

Rahul is also a press reporter but with a different news channel and has been following the case step by step. Sheetal and Rahul are deeply in love with each other. There are many incidents th! at point out that may be Rahul is actually with Arjun Sherawat! . One da y, there comes a news that Arjun Sherawat has died, so the case has now been solved. This also removes the suspicion which was on Rahul.

Everyone is in a joyous mood until they hear Arjun Sherawat s latest audio clip on television, which says he will kidnap 3 people in front of the police. Here, we realize that Sheetal was actually involved with Arjun Sherawat. We also learn that Rahul is actually an undercover CBI Officer who posed as a news reporter to crack this mystery case.

A lot of twists and turns along with conflicts now begin till the case is actually solved.Don Muthu Swami is one of Bombay's most fearsome gangsters. On his deathbed, his father forces him to make a promise: that from now on he will lead a decent life. From that moment onwards, the don has a new purpose in life: to become Sir Muthu Swami instead. On of his new goals is to become fluent in Urdu, for which purpose he hires the young Jaikishan as a teacher. Don Muthu Swami has a beautiful daughter, ! Sanjana, whom he wants to get married to Pradhan, the son of his close friend. However, the don's right hand man, Preetam, asks for her hand as well. To impress Don Muthu Swami, he claims to be very rich by stealing millions from his employer. Sanjana herself, on the other hand, is desperate to get married to Jaikishan, and to scare off Pradhan, she fakes to be pregnant. The Don believe Preetam must be the culprit, but as it turns out, the girl Preetam loves is not Sanjana, but another girl who claims to be Don Muthu Swami's daughter, Ranjana.Jawani Diwani is a story of complicated choices, the outcome of these choices which are but of course, ruled by the ultimate power of unconditional love! Mann, a wannabe singer, is a hard-core opportunist. The beautiful and trusting Radha, daughter of a successful music company owner - walks into his life. Mann does not hesitate in ""choosing"" Radha as his love interest for a purely selfish cause. An agreement for Mann's music is signe! d and marriage with the daughter of the business tycoon planne! d. The r eason is big enough to justify the demand by Mann's friends for a treat in Goa. His frivilous one night stand with Goan beauty, Rama, brews trouble for him and his career.Caught red handed, he is forced to tie the knot with her. Realising marriage means nothing for him, she walks out on the marriage, making things easier for him. A divorced yet happy Mann flies down to Mumbai where Radha and more importantly stardom awaits him.A luck would have it, Roma enters his life yet again featuring as a model and a co-star for his music video. With the wedding bells ringing close,Mann's dilemma worsens when he realises that he is truly in love with Roma! What follows is a tryst with fate for Mann. Will he sacrifice fame and money for the woman he loves? He committed his love to one woman. And fell in love with another. Pritish Nandy Communications' first offering for the year is a romance unlike any other. Inspired by the events of his life, Vikram Bhatt puts to celluloid a film after his own heart, Ankahee. The truth is that Shekhar (Aftab Shivdasani) was a common man. Happily married to his wife Nandita (Ameesha Patel) of several years. The relationship was sealed as special by the coming of their child. They were a happy family. Till one day, the reigning Miss World and Bollywood's biggest star, Kavya Krishna (Esha Deol), walked into his hospital armed with a slit wrist and what Shekhar believed to be, true love. Kavya was beautiful, stunning in fact. She was smart and alive and Shekhar, like the rest of the world, fell in love with her. Days hurried past as he cleared the rest of his life, his wife, his daughter, his friends, his work to make way for his love. Nothing was more important than Kavya and his need to be her constant. Kavya Krishna. The reigning Miss World. The most beautiful woman in the world. Or maybe the most beautiful woman in a pageant of 60 girls. Bollywood's biggest upcoming star. Beautiful. Powerful. Successful. Alone. Lonely in a world where she was the most popular woman. For her Shekhar was the lifeline, she'd always sought. Her anchor. Her man. The only person in the world who could make her happy. And Kavya wanted, needed, struggled to be happy. Nandita, of course, was the woman stuck in the middle. Shekhar was her husband. The only man she'd ever loved. And yet, he'd found it only too easy to walk away. From her. From their home. And from Sheena, their 6 year old daughter. Ankahee is about the truths that were left unspoken between a man, his wife and his daughter. And the lies that need to be uncovered. It is a film about brutal love, deception, betrayal and the desperate loneliness that accompanies all three.

Havoc (Unrated Version)

  • A group of wealthy Los Angeles teenagers try to become part of the "gangsta" lifestyle but soon run into trouble when they come face to face with a real gang of Latino drug dealers.Running Time: 92 min. Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: DRAMA Rating: NR Age: 794043843228 UPC: 794043843228 Manufacturer No: N8432
Academy Award® Nominees Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway co-star in “the smartest, sexiest and downright best screen-melting romance of the year” (Parade ). Hathaway delivers an unforgettable performance as the free-spirited Maggie, who meets her match in a charming Viagra salesman named Jamie (Gyllenhaal). Maggie and Jamie leap into a no-strings-attached affair, but no matter how hard they try to keep things “casual,” they can’t help falling under the influence of the ultimate drug...love!Last paired up for Brokeback Mountain, Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal reunite f! or this romantic take on Jamie Reidy's Hard Sell. The story takes place in the 1990s when a certain blue pill made its debut. Gyllenhaal's Jamie, a smooth-talking pharmaceutical rep, meets Hathaway's Maggie, an aspiring artist, while trying to persuade her physician (Hank Azaria) to carry Pfizer products. The attraction is instant, but Jamie prefers the thrill of the chase to anything more meaningful. While he and his partner (Oliver Platt, Azaria's Huff costar) work on a transfer from Ohio to Illinois, Jake and Maggie's fling develops into a relationship. On the comic side, Jamie battles with a rival rep (Gabriel Macht), switches from Zoloft to Viagra, and gains a roommate in his socially inept brother (Josh Gad, good value). On the dramatic side, he gets a glimpse of Maggie's world, which involves trips to Canada for medication and the temporary loss of motor skills (the screenplay fails to explain how she can afford such a spacious loft). Not counting shows! like Thirtysomething, Edward Zwick remains best known ! for docu dramas like Defiance, and Love and Other Drugs marks a new direction. The dialogue is snappy and the actors are game--both show a fair amount of skin--but the two halves of the film make for an awkward fit. Still, it's nice to see Gyllenhaal cut loose for a change. If Hathaway gives a more self-conscious performance, she brings the requisite amount of spirit and dignity to her role. --Kathleen C. FennessyA group of wealthy Los Angeles teenagers try to become part of the "gangsta" lifestyle but soon run into trouble when they come face to face with a real gang of Latino drug dealers. After making her name in The Princess Diaries, Anne Hathaway takes a radical detour with this edgy independent drama. As Allie, a wealthy gangsta wannabe, she makes no excuses for her delinquent behavior: "We're just teenagers and we're bored." When her Pacific Palisades posse, including pal Emily (Bully's Bijou Phillips), starts hanging out with a Latino gang (i! ncluding Six Feet Under's Freddy Rodríguez), they learn what thug life is really about. Hathaway couldn't be more game: She swears, she fights--she disrobes (several times). Written and directed by Oscar winners Stephen Gaghan (Traffic) and Barbara Kopple (American Dream), Havoc plays like a B movie, in the vein of the superior crazy/beautiful, and was released straight to video. For Hathaway fans, it's a chance to see this young talent in a very different light, but for Gaghan and Kopple followers, this lurid morality tale is sure to come as a letdown. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Clean

  • Maggie Cheung (2046) gives a bravura performance as a complex, troubled woman who is trying to forge a bond with her young son, while at the same time healing and distancing herself from a past full of drugs, jail, and turbulent relationships. Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: DRAMA Rating: R Age: 660200313722 UPC: 660200313722 Manufacturer No: PALMDV3137
Emily Wang (Maggie Cheung) is a woman who wrestles with her dream of becoming a singer, her fitness as a mother, and daily life without her partner Lee (James Johnston). Her past is riddled with drugs and regrets, the result of which left Lee dead in a desolate motel room in Hamilton, Ontario, and landed Emily with a six-month jail sentence. The only thing that she desires for the future is a loving relationship with her son Jay, who is being cared for by Lee’s parents, Albrecht (Nick Nolte) and Rosemary (Martha Henry). While Rosemary blame! s Emily for the death of Lee, Albrecht recognizes the importance of the bond between a mother and her son, and his faith sets the standard for the faith Emily must find in herself. CLEAN follows Emily to Hamilton, Paris, London and San Francisco and in three languages, as she battle for a place in a world reluctant to forget the woman she has been and unwilling to accept her as the woman she longs to be.After the uncharacteristically epic Les Destinées and surprisingly cynical Demonlover, Olivier Assayas got his groove back with the cautiously optimistic Clean. Granted, the globe-trotting tale gets off to a grim start, but the grace notes gradually begin to accumulate. Corkscrew-coiffed Emily (Hong Kong superstar Maggie Cheung) is the outspoken lover of struggling musician Lee (James Johnston, formerly of Brit band Gallon Drunk). She's also a heroin addict, just like her partner. When he dies from an overdose, she does time for possession, while his C! anadian parents, Albrecht (Nick Nolte in a nicely-shaded perfo! rmance) and Rosemary (Martha Henry), gain custody of son Jay (James Dennis). Upon release, Emily returns to France to find work, stay clean, and earn the right to reclaim her child. Except for Albrecht, no one believes she can pull it off. Worse yet, many hold her responsible for Lee's death. (The echoes of Courtney Love and Yoko Ono can't be coincidental.) A decade has passed since Assayas directed Cheung in the dazzling Irma Vep. Since that time, they married and divorced, but the professional relationship persists, culminating in a Best Actress award at Cannes for a performance that calls for dialogue in English, French, and Cantonese--even some singing. As suggested by the title, Clean is cool and somewhat detached, an effect reinforced by Éric Gautier's crisp cinematography and a soundtrack heavy on early Eno, but it sidesteps the histrionics frequently associated with the recovery film. Featuring Tricky and David Roback (Mazzy Star) as themselves. --Kathleen ! C. Fennessy

Femme Fatale is a contemporary film noir about an alluring seductress (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos) suddenly exposed to the world -- and her enemies -- by a voyeuristic photographer (Antonio Banderas) who becomes ensnared in her surreal quest for revenge. The sheer pleasure of watching movies is celebrated in Brian De Palma's dazzling Femme Fatale. Working from his own intricate screenplay, De Palma indulges all of his trademark obsessions, upping the ante on Hitchcock (again) with a Vertigo-like plot that begins with a! n audacious heist at the Cannes film festival (another sexy, violent tour de force for De Palma). From there, the stunning thief Laure (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos) assumes a new identity, marries a U.S. senator (Peter Coyote), and returns to Paris where a tenacious paparazzo (Antonio Banderas) becomes a patsy in her multilayered scheme. De Palma's weaving a web of nonsense, but his plotting is so exuberantly absurd--and his frame so full of visual clues and relevant detail--that Femme Fatale becomes a joyous thrill ride at first encounter, and a crazily logical (and grandly rewarding) movie on subsequent viewings. In her best role to date, Romijn-Stamos is everything you'd want a femme fatale to be, in a thriller that constantly challenges you to question what you're seeing. --Jeff Shannon

A Good Woman

  • DVD Details: Actors: Helen Hunt, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Wilkinson, Milena Vukotic, Stephen Campbell Moore
  • Directors: Mike Barker
  • Format: Closed-captioned, Color, Dolby, DVD, Subtitled, Widescreen, NTSC. Region: Region 1 (U.S. and Canada only)
  • Aspect Ratio: 1.78:1; Number of discs: 1; Studio: Lions Gate
  • DVD Release Date: November 9, 1999; Run Time: 83 minutes
An all-star cast with memorable performances by Helen Hunt, Matthew Broderick, Bette Midler and Colin Firth powers this smart, funny drama about love and destiny. Desperate to start a family, schoolteacher April Epner (Hunt) is thrown into confusion when she is unexpectedly abandoned by her husband (Broderick). She gets another shock when she meets her unusual birth mother (Midler), a self-centered talk show host who's not exactly the ideal mom. At first she rejects her, along with the attentions of a divo! rced dad (Firth), but then she begins to find her life opening up in ways she had never imagined.Like all the most intriguing titles, Then She Found Me lends itself to multiple interpretations. Does "she" refer to New York talk-show host Bernice (Bette Midler, in a welcome return to the screen), the self-proclaimed birth parent who enters the life of schoolteacher April (Oscar winner Helen Hunt) upon the death of her adoptive mother? Or does the pronoun refer to April, who meets divorced dad Frank (Colin Firth) the day her marriage to co-worker Ben (Matthew Broderick) comes to an abrupt halt? The surprising conclusion to Hunt's directorial debut suggests a third interpretation. In adapting Elinor Lipman's novel, Hunt treads well-worn ground, but does so with grace and sensitivity. When Ben walks out on his 39-year-old wife, she fears he's left with her chances of having a baby. As much as she enjoyed her childhood, April would prefer not to adopt, and with the suppor! t of her non-adopted brother, Freddy (Ben Shenkman), she strug! gles to reconcile her warm feelings towards the awkward Frank with her chilly reaction to the slippery Bernice. Though April has a hard time imagining they could be related, the teacher and the TV personality both want children in their lives, so it's not as if they lack a common bond. When April finds out she's pregnant, further complications ensue. Though Then She Found Me circles Lifetime movie-of-the-week territory, Hunt resists the urge to smooth away her characters’ rough edges, investing her film with the crackle of real life. --Kathleen C. FennessyThis 2-disc set contains the entire first season of 22 full episodes including the pilot! Get ready for romance and hilarious bickering in the Big Apple. Join Jamie and Paul Buchman (Academy Award winner Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser) as they navigate marriage in this 6 time Emmy Award winning series.GOOD WOMAN - DVD MovieScarlett Johannson and Helen Hunt give Oscar Wilde's popular play Lady Windermere's Fan a lavish jazz-age treatment in A Good Woman. An adventuress (Hunt, As Good as It Gets) flees scandal in New York and lands in Italy, where she crosses paths with a young businessman (David Hasselhoff look-alike Mark Umbers) and his very upright young wife (Johansson, Lost in Translation). Before long, tongues are wagging about the adventuress and the businessman, possibly driving the wife to a rash act. A Good Woman retains Wilde's plot--though its 19th century moral concerns don't have the same punch in 1930s Italy--and tosses aside most of his impeccable dialogue, sprinkling his clever epigrams here and there in the otherwise undistinguished dialogue. Johansson, perhaps the most physically sensual actress since Brigitte Bardot, is miscast as the moral prig; Hunt, looking pinched and austere, is miscast as the jaded courtesan. The movie's great saving grace is Tom Wilkinson as a rich man who hopes Hunt will warm his older years. Wilkinson br! ings a worldly benevolence to every moment he's on screen, mak! ing the lines that weren't written by Wilde sound as crisp and wise as if they were. --Bret Fetzer

Gia (Unrated Edition)

  • It's late 70's New York. Studio 54, designer jeans, drugs and disco. This is the outrageous, breathtaking story of the first fashion super-model - her rise to the top, and her fall caught up in a whirlwind of drugs, sex and celebrity.Running Time: 126 min. GIA (UNRATED) - DVD MovieThere's a reason why Cindy Crawford was dubbed "Baby Gia" when she first hit the modeling scene. Indeed, Crawford, now the world's best-known supermodel, greatly resembled model Gia Carangi, who went from high school to the cover of British Vogue in less than two years. Carangi appeared on many more covers of Vogue (French, British, Italian, and American) and Cosmopolitan before dying of complications from AIDS (she was an IV heroin user) in 1986. Now most people recognize Carangi's name fro! m this powerful HBO film that stars Golden Globe-winner Angelina Jolie, who comes by her talent honestly. Jolie is the daughter of veteran actor Jon Voight, and her own training as a model serves her well--she has the moves. Throughout, she's heartbreaking--as no doubt the real Carangi was--effective, and stunning.

With good source material (Stephen Fried's A Thing of Beauty: The Tragedy of Supermodel Gia), Jolie's stunning performance, and strong directing by Michael Cristofer, the movie goes beyond the merely sensational. The script was cowritten by Cristofer and novelist Jay McInerney, whose Bright Lights, Big City covers similar territory. As a cautionary tale, Gia works. But to watch Jolie in her character's tragic self-destruction is utterly compelling. --N.F. Mendoza

ONE LAST THING - DVD MovieThe premise sounds like the most crass 1980s teen sex comedy imaginable: A teenage boy dying of cancer makes a last wish to spend a weekend alone with a supermodel. Yet One Last Thing... is neither crass nor a sex comedy, but rather a surprisingly touching exploration of taking chances, mortality, spirituality, and the price of love. Dylan (Michael Angarano, Sky High) has been granted a conventional dying wish by a foundation, but at the televised press conference he changes his mind and asks for a weekend with blond s! ex symbol Nikki Sinclair (Sunny Mabrey, Snakes on a Plane). The consequences unfold realistically: The supermodel (who has her own problems) and her agent (Gina Gershon, Bound) show up for a brief photo opportunity, then split--but Dylan, with the help of his friends, goes to New York to follow up on her promise to go out with him if he visits. The core of One Last Thing... is Dylan's relationship with his mother (Cynthia Nixon, Sex and the City), one of the most real and affecting mother-son relationships on film. The actors--including an uncredited Ethan Hawke (Before Sunset)--are uniformly excellent, giving this potentially absurd set-up a remarkable emotional integrity. --Bret FetzerRead by Cynthia Nixon!
